Alkagesta has agreed to acquire Turkish marine fuel distributor Energy Petrol in a transaction that will give the trader its first owned vessels and expand its role in supplying fuel directly to ships. In a summary of international press coverage published on its website, Alkagesta said the deal had received approval from the Turkish Competition Authority.
The acquisition includes eight bunkering vessels and a long-term lease covering 28,000 cubic metres of tank capacity at the Altıntel terminal in Gebze. According to Alkagesta, that capacity will take its total oil products storage to approximately 728,000 cubic metres. The vessel component represents a change for the company, which said it had previously relied on chartered tonnage rather than owning ships.
Energy Petrol was established in 1997 and is described in the company’s account as the third-largest physical marine fuel supplier in the port of Istanbul. It will retain its existing brand and customer base and continue operating independently. The agreement therefore brings the supplier’s fleet and leased storage into Alkagesta’s business while preserving Energy Petrol’s separate operating identity.
Alkagesta presented the transaction as an expansion beyond wholesale marine fuel trading into direct distribution to end users. Its account cited reports that it had supplied Energy Petrol on a wholesale basis for several years before the acquisition agreement. It also said the company had prevailed in a competitive sale process involving other trading houses and major industry participants, without identifying those bidders.
The company’s summary put its trading volume in the first half of 2026 at 4.9 million tonnes, an increase of 53% from a year earlier. Asad Huseynov, Alkagesta’s managing director of investments and asset management, linked the acquisition to a broader move in commodity markets towards greater ownership of physical assets and business models built for the long term. The figures and strategic rationale were set out in Alkagesta’s own account of the coverage.
